Research, consulting and training: the core of the firm. We put data and research to work on the questions that matter to our society, and bring high-quality research methods to postgraduate students, professionals and institutions. We work with the organisations that own data and build data infrastructure, so that it can be used to identify gaps, support decisions and evaluate the impact of policy.

VIBRANIUM Scholarship
Our community-service wing. The scholarship supports female secondary school students, and a few further students with outstanding results, by linking a school's alumni back to it: each alumnus contributes pocket money of 250 birr a month for a year plus a one-off 1,000 birr book voucher. It gives alumni a way to give back, and the students a lasting connection.

VIBRANIUM Books
Design, production, publishing, sales and distribution. Reading in Ethiopia is held back by the shortage of good libraries, bookshops and cafés more than by the price of books, so this department publishes its own — BookETHIOPIA, the Addis Coffee Guide, the Coffee Series and the Reference Series — and provides premium book loans, book gifts and titles that cannot be bought in the country.

VIBRANIUM Tutors
Online and in person. A web platform and mobile application connecting students with trained, certified tutors across the country, in academic and non-academic skills alike. It creates work for people — university students included — without long journeys, improves teaching through continuous coaching and discounted resources, and lets a senior student earn from the subject they are already good at instead of an unrelated job.

VIBRANIUM Communications
The department responsible for all design-related activity across the firm — technology, books, schools, classrooms and resources. It also produces VIBRANT Talks, a YouTube and podcast show where successful women and men tell young people what it actually took, plus book bazaars, festivals and The VIBRANIUM magazine, which sets out advanced ideas in philosophy, politics, science, health and art in plain terms, in Amharic and English, for high school and university students.

VIBRANIUM Tours, Travel and Mentorship
People learn from seeing and from other people's experience. This department arranges educational tours, exchange programmes and mentorships, internships, scholarships, national and international conferences, flights, accommodation and hosting, at home and abroad — networking students with organisations in the field they want to enter, so a student who wants to study medicine spends a day seeing what a physician's day is really like. It also handles registration and booking for the exams students need: SAT, TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, GMAT, PLAB and USMLE.

How we work
From a question to something that changes, in three steps.
Start from the data
We work with the organisations that hold data and build the infrastructure around it, so that it can be used to identify gaps, support decisions, and monitor and evaluate the impact of policy.
Build the skills
We introduce high-quality research methods to postgraduate students, professionals and institutions through short courses, pre-conference workshops and continuous coaching — drawing on what our team learned working abroad.
Put it back into the community
Findings turn into books, tutorials, talks and scholarships. We campaign for data use in research, for awareness of data privacy, and for policies on data protection and governance, together with the ministries and institutions concerned.
